The reason I see this as important is that -
- it is a proverb that God teaches - but how?
- and it is used in the New Testament in Hebrews.
- and it has justified all sorts of violence in human behaviour.
Can I, I wonder, think about foreground as well as background?

I think the question is: what in our current language and historical framework would best gloss learning in relationship? Particularly concerning the relationship of a child of our time to the One who is Sufficient? (pick your God - it's a multiple choice question).
